A big thank you to the 25 of you who subscribed since my last letter! Your support means the world.
This is not the first time you’ve heard about purpose or your why- whether in life or anything at all. But just like any familiar concept, sometimes it gets overlooked.
don’t overlook this 👀
So, what’s the deal with purpose and why does it matter in community building? I gotcha!
Imagine waking up, getting dressed, and booking a trip... without knowing where you're going or why. That's what building a community without purpose feels like.
A beautiful idea to bring people together is amazing but if you can’t say why you’re bringing them and how it would benefit them, you may have to let the idea sit for a while till you get it right.
Having a clear purpose – a "why" behind bringing people together – is essential for shaping your community's identity and attracting the right members. It guides every decision you make and ensures that your actions align with your goals. It also helps you set boundaries and create effective metrics.
As a community builder, don’t build without a purpose. And as a community manager, ensure that you understand the purpose of the community you are given to manage before you get into anything.

Can your purpose be reviewed? Absolutely Yes!
People will come, you will learn and adjustment may be required. For some of you, you will get to review but never change anything cause everything just aligns.
Recently, I had to review the purpose of this newsletter. For the past 4 years, this has been a space where I documented my learnings and career journey but over time it has evolved into something bigger and I’m adjusting accordingly.
But you get the drill, yeah?
Someone shared this on the form I shared earlier this week
“Yes, my community members are not responding despite implementing your tips.”
If this is you, I’d love to chat with you. I’ve been meeting with community folks 1:1 since January and it’s still ongoing. Do schedule a call let’s get to tackle it together. It’s free.
P.S. I sent out a survey form on Monday to get to hear from you about this newsletter so if you’ve been a subscriber for a while now, I’ll really love your feedback! Thank you!
Till next week, I appreciate you.
