Q3 Recap
some of the cool community things I did this quarter
I started a quarterly work report thingy on my Instagram page earlier this year, ‘cause it was a low lift effort at showing what I do for work in that space, and so far I’ve pretty much fallen in love with it. Also, getting to gather up the details and seeing the progress made in 3 months feels really amazing.
I am definitely keeping up with it, and I thought of doing a written version on this newsletter as a way of keeping the documentation going and also hoping that you get a thing or two out of it.
Here’s what Q3 (July - September) looked like!
Q3 was filled with planning and executing on another major event for the organization I work with. From the weekly meetings, to the daily tasks and follow-ups to all the emails and other forms of communication, it was an experience and a good one at that. Now I’ve gotten to work on two events in almost 1 year of working with this organization.
Do I consider myself an event planner? Nahhh! I’m the backend girl who gets things done for those who do the planning 😂
One experience for me this time was getting to work with an external team we were collaborating with, and I’m so happy that it was a smooth one for us all. Communication was excellent, the coordination was frictionless, they were extremely kind, and all of that resulted in an excellent execution 💯💯💯
Some of the work I did included;
Community engagement
Creative designs for the event
Developed an event itinerary that was followed throughout planning and execution
Email communications
Follow-ups with vendors, special guests, etc.
* *wore some other shoes here & there that I don’t necessarily need to mention
The feedback I received for my job was consistent and solid - I did a great job and the entire team was grateful for the part parts I played.
Another major execution for me was a summer program we had put together for kids. I successfully handled everything from the visuals to the communication and coordination of the program. It was an absolute success, and I got my flowers from both the parents and the organization I work with.
While all this major stuff went on, of course, the day-to-day running of the community was active; engaging, responding to messages, hosting webinars, moderating, coordinating team members, etc.
In July, I got to work on and design an Impact Report for the first time. It was a mid-year report, and it was a really exciting one, coupled with a lot of back & forth with putting it together 😄
Thankfully, we had created an impact tracker early in the year, so we had information to work with. Getting to look back on all the organization achieved in 6 months and putting it together for our members was incredible. I’m looking forward to the annual report at the end of the year (pray for me 😂)
On the part of serving and building my professional life, one of the things I kept up with this quarter was showing up on LinkedIn at least once a week. I also kicked off an Instagram page as an extension of this newsletter to share community-building knowledge beyond the confines of LinkedIn and X.
I didn’t create any new resources this quarter, but I’ve seen a good number of downloads for some already existing ones, like the audit workbook and the Notion resource library template. Thank you all for your support, I really appreciate it 🤗
Also, I didn’t get much learning this quarter, but I did catch up on some newsletters I’m signed up to, read some articles, and watched a few YouTube videos from CMX. Writing it down now, I did do some learning 😄
Lessons
One impactful lesson that has stood out for me this quarter is this: It’s easy to watch other people show up effortlessly, but a lot of times, we are all just fighting our fears and taking a step. So, enjoy the journey you’re on and celebrate your little wins. It’s certainly more about the journey than the destination.
Curious to know what I did in Q1 & Q2? Here’s a quick highlight 👇
Q1 was heavy on planning and executing our first major event, and yeah, all of that plus regular community management duties. That was the first event I worked on, which resulted in creating an event workflow for the organization, and we used that workflow to execute on this second event seamlessly.
Q2 was heavy on workflows, SOPs, and the rest for the organization. Then I also had a speaking engagement, wrote you some letters, created some resources, etc.
Thank you for reading through. Talk soon!
