Hey there! Happy weekend!
This week was quite hectic and my brain felt like mush, making it hard for me to put my thoughts down on paper. But, I pushed through and am glad I did.
Thanks for being a part of this newsletter and supporting me!
Today we’ll look into how you can learn new things or generate ideas by either joining or observing another community. Get ready to explore some new insights!
Learning from other successful communities in similar fields is one of the great ways you can kick things off in a new community, improve an existing one and grow a community.
You don’t always need to start from scratch, you can take inspiration from what's already worked for others, give it your own spin and make it your own. This has been a game changer for me.
Just to be clear, I'm not saying you should copy another community just because they're similar to yours or the same as yours (that's a no-no). I'm saying, take inspiration from some of the good ideas you see in other communities, like an artist takes inspiration from other artists. It's all good, nothing to feel guilty about.
Having a hard start with ideas? Here are a few ways to check out what other successful communities are doing and borrow some of their ideas:
One easy way to learn from other successful communities is to join them and take part (if you can). This way you can see firsthand what they're doing and what's making them successful.
Not joining? Well, you can study them and look for best practices. Check out those who have grown their membership, increased engagement, or hit other goals you're striving for. Take a look at what they're doing and see if it could work for your community too.
Plug into physical or virtual events for community builders/managers. It’s s a great way to network with other community professionals and learn from their processes.
Be open to ideas from communities which are not necessarily in your field. Just because they are in the same industry as yours, doesn't mean you can't learn from them. As long as community is the core, you can learn a thing or three.
Get involved in communities for community professionals as they are a great way to connect with other community folks, share/exchange ideas with them, and stay on top of the latest community trends.
Keep on learning! Be open to new ideas and strategies always. With community, it is a continuous learning process, and by being open to learning, you'll be able to stay ahead of the curve.
By observation or participation, you get to learn from these communities' successes and failures and use that knowledge to improve and grow your community.
Keep in mind that every community is different and unique but ideas can always be reinvented.
Got any thoughts on this? I’d love to hear from you.
