I had told myself this year that I will show up even when it’s hard and I’ve committed to doing just that. The first quarter has been a bliss and here are some moments and lessons:
I started the year with preparing a community proposal as requirement for the next phase of an interview I had as the year began. Though I didn’t get the role, I enjoyed the entire proposal preparation process and had a great chat with the founder of the brand.
I opened up slots for 1:1 calls, and got to spend time with 21 amazing community builders. It was very rewarding and I will certainly do it again.
I was invited to teach Content Strategy & Planning to the mentees of Community For Africa- another rewarding experience. You can find what I taught here
My community audit workbook got a 100 downloads and I couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you to everyone here who got it. If you don’t know about this, check it out here!
It’s been over a year being with no full time role and financially it’s not a good place to be. Initially, when this “no job” thingy started last year I was completely lost and confused on what else to do but this year, I’m refusing to let not having a job stop me from embracing other possibilities. I read something in an article earlier in the year that helped with shifting my mindset.
but as I said, you can be out of your job, but never be out of your career, it is yours to hone, to own.)
While I hope for a full time role, I’m full-on freelancing and monetizing my skills beyond just community management. It’s a better option cause it keeps me on my feet instead of just waiting for what may or may not come. Also, not forgetting that life is meant to be explored so I’ll keep at what is in my control and let everything else sort itself out.
Lessons from Q1:
It’s okay to do only what works for you!
“A beautiful thing happens when you stop caring how others will perceive something and you do it because you find joy in it. Follow what brings you joy and be unapologetic about it.” - Max Pete
“Lean into those challenges that scare you a bit. Growth lies in the discomfort and sometimes a good little push is all we need.” - Max Pete
“It's the work you do behind the scenes when no one is watching and when nobody knows who you are that determines the level of your performance and it doesn't matter what your industry, job or craft is you've got to be committed to practising and training and rehearsing every single day!”
I have the next 90 days planned and I look forward to keeping the momentum and working out everything I’ve planned- one of which would be to launch a paid service or product.
I hope that you have a great run in Q2 as well.
If your Q1 didn’t turn out the way that you had expected, it’s already in the past and you have the power to make the next 90 days a good one.
Thank you for all the love and support in the first quarter!
Till next time, I appreciate you.
Thank you so much for always showing up for us, Martha. And well doneee! I really hope your plans and wishes turn out excellently well. Looking forward to your product as well. yayy to that!
